Printer Video

Hey everyone! Only a couple of weeks left before we find out if we are accepted or not! In the meantime I thought I'd show you a cool video I found. It introduces the RepRap "Medel" which is the printer style we are planning on building.
Enjoy!

Updates

Hey everyone!
Just writing a general update to keep everyone interested while we work away at our last full month of school and wait for the decision date of Dec. 7.
Here's a company that is working on 3-D printers to make them print well in microgravity! They hope to develop printers that can be taken to space stations to be used to make spare parts there. They've done a lot of research with printers on zero-G flights.

Space Vision 2011

Hey everyone! I'm in Colorado right now, about to get on a plane to head back to Boston. I just attended the 2011 Space Vision Conference in Boulder, Co. Space Vision is a conference for the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space (SEDS) chapters to come together and learn more about what each chapter is doing. I listened a lot of interesting presentations and learned a lot about other chapter's projects. I met a couple chapters that had submitted their own Microgravity Projects, including the University of Arizona who flew last year! I also met other people who are involved in really great space-related projects, such as Bob Richards, one of the founders of the Google Lunar X-prize team Moon Express! (http://moonexpress.com/ check it out!)

It was a really exciting conference, and I definitely want to spend the next few posts blogging about the things I learned there. Probably some of the topics you'll be hearing about: exoplanet searching techniques, space debris removal, and new orbital and suborbital launching capabilities.
Stay tuned!

Starting the Proposal

Starting this post with a shovel.
Why?
Today we "BROKE GROUND" on writing the proposal! We finally have our hypothesis all figured out, so we decided it was time to start getting words on paper. It feels great to finally be chipping away at the proposal. Especially since the deadline is two weeks away!
